Under U.S. Law, there is a very special kind of irrevocable trust that can be set up for a person who has a disability.
The purpose of the trust is to protect access to Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, subsidized housing, rehabilitation programs and other benefits.
Money placed into a special needs trust cannot be used to disqualify the beneficiary from any of those programs.
Prior to this trust fund being authorized, a person who received a sum of money from virtually any source, might be disqualified from receiving services.
